Biography 

With over 35 years of expertise in navigating the intricacies of financial management for families and foundations, David Goodson brings a wealth of experience to the table. In his role as the Chief Investment Officer at our firm, David is instrumental in shaping asset allocation and defining investment strategies.

Before co-founding Proffitt & Goodson, Inc. in 1986, David honed his skills at Shearson Lehman Brothers, Inc. where he provided tailored financial advice and exceptional personal service to high-net-worth individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Education and Certifications

David earned a BS and an MBA in economics and finance from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. 

He is a Chartered Financial Analyst charter holder and a member of the CFA Institute, a global association of investment professionals who hold the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He also is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA-Inactive)

Outside of ProffittGoodson

David is deeply rooted in community service, working in a number of non-profit roles over the years. His impact extends beyond the financial realm, embodying a commitment to both professional excellence and community betterment. He is currently a board member and the investment committee chair for the Holston Foundation, a board member and treasurer of Scenic Knoxville, Inc., and the chair of the Church Street UMC Endowment Committee.

In addition to work and community service, David enjoys being outdoors, whether mountain biking, hiking, fishing, snow skiing, or an occasional round of golf. He also spends as much time as possible with his three beautiful granddaughters.

Crafting a personal money mission involves reflecting on one's values, aspirations, and priorities, then aligning them with financial decisions to create a meaningful and sustainable financial path. I strive to help clients use their financial resources in a purposeful and intentional way.
